Out with the Old & In with the Newport - Spend a Day in Newport, Kentucky

Updated: Jun 25, 2021

We are half way through the year and I have suddenly become the queen of staycations, and while I may not have actually slept in Newport, I certainly had quite the day! Sooooo, LET'S GET RID of the OLD & GET INTO the NEWPORT, by spending a day across the river! Here are a few places I think are sure to make your day in Newport one to remember! (And one's I keep coming back to! Kaitskravings approved!)

Newport Bridgeview Box Park

Admittedly one of my favorite spots in Newport, KY is Newport on the Levee's Bridgeview Box Park, especially on a sunny day! The views do not compete with anywhere else in Cincinnati and I am a huge fan of the casual atmosphere that is great for all ages. So whether you're in Newport for the day with your kids, or spending a night out with the girls, it's the perfect multifunctional space. Especially as the sun starts to set. You can snag a light bite from one of the many eateries and try a multitude of libations from the shipment containers, turned bars, which are also TOTAL WORKS of ART! Kon Tiki is probably on the top of my list but Beeline & Buzz is a close second!

ALSO! Bridgeview Box Park host several events throughout the week, so if you're a know-it-all like me, check them out on Tuesday nights for Trivia Night on the Levee! They also host Wellness on the Levee, Friday mornings AND Summer Music on the Levee, Thursday evenings. SO. MUCH. TO. DO. HERE!

The best part about Newport on the Levee is that it has created an outdoor social area AND an indoor market style shopping experience called the TRADE. Newport does a fantastic job of encouraging collaboration, support and building each other up. It is such a gem for those that live near and far. While clothes and plants are my weakness (helllo, LOVE Leaf & Limb), the store that stands out to me most is, Ten Thousand Villages.

Ten Thousand Villages

Ten Thousand Villages sells goods from all over the world mostly made by hand. A global maker-to-market movement that works towards tearing down generational poverty and ignites social change. Ten Thousand Villages puts people and the planet first with unique goods from all over the world. So whether you're from out of town or down the street there is something unique here for everyone! Each purchase empowers their makers and continues the fight for ethically sourced goods.

Who knew all of that was in a little shop in Newport, Kentucky! I sure didn't, but now that I do, I snagged this necklace that seriously spoke to me that was made in India. The gold, silver and bronze heart combination was so unique to me and it reminded me of my siblings and I. I really loved finding this hand made necklace that hit so close to home! I hope you check out Ten Thousand Villages, while you're at Newport on the Levee

As you can see, I am thoroughly enjoying my necklace and it suddenly has become the most cherished piece of jewelry out of all the pieces I own!

Riverfront Commons - Travel from Bridgeview Box Park to Covington, KY.

You know what I have ALWAYS LOVED about Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky?! No, I mean SERIOUSLY LOVE!!! It's how easy it is to navigate the area. We have like 40 bridges, 800 walkways and two highways that will always lead you home. Okay, I'm being a little dramatic here, but seriously, us "Cintuckians", know how to get from point A to point B and now SO CAN YOU! The Riverfront Commons Walkway helps you easily go from Newport to Covington, which is great because that is where I'm headed next (hint, hint, wink, wink). But they are still working on it too! One day it will go all the way from Ludlow, KY to Fort Thomas, KY! That's over 11 miles of uninterrupted running, walking and biking!

I've always had a deep love for the Riverfront in general, and while it might be the view, or the fact that I try to imagine I'm on the beach all the time, I think its really that something beautiful connects two of my favorite places. To be able to walk along it and explore even more places that I have learned to love, holds a special place in my heart. So whether you're looking to get in shape and going for a run or simply walking to explore all there is to explore around Northern Kentucky, I hope you do so on the Riverfront Commons Walkway.

There are so many hidden gems in Newport, from Carabello Coffee to BB Riverboat Tours even York Street Café, there are so many reasons to explore Newport.

As always, check it out for yourself and let me know what your unique finds are! There is so much to find in the least likely places, from cocktails shared on the riverfront, to new cultural experiences and perhaps, getting a few more steps in, Newport, KY might be the unexpected day you've been waiting for! Happy travels yall!

Check out meet Northern Kentucky (meetnky) for even more great things to do in Newport!
